FamCap’s Top 50 North American Investment Professionals

Family Capital

2 September 2025

The FamCap 50 North American Investment Professionals are the top investment individuals in the world of family capital, as nominated by our readers and adjudicated by Family Capital’s editorial team. They are outstanding investors who make a difference to their family investment groups in North America and the wider world.

Family Capital compiled the list from a poll of its readers earlier this year, a review of their activities during the year, and an assessment of their overall impact in the North American family capital ecosystem.

They are not the family principals, but rather the real investment professionals behind the family. These individuals are among the most highly trained and experienced investment professionals in the world, who can more than compete against any of their counterparts in the institutional investment world.

Family Capital has ranked the top five individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the world of family capital. We have listed the remaining 50 in alphabetical order.

4. Paul Carbone

Pritzker Alternative Strategies, Co-Founder and President, Chicago

Harvard University MBA

Investment focus: private equity, direct and funds

Carbone is one of America’s top champions of family capital and its intrinsic role in capital markets. With Tony Pritzker, he founded Pritzker Private Capital in 2002, a hugely successful family-backed private equity business with an emphasis on patient capital. Stepping down from a full-time role at PPC, he has now teamed up with Tony again, this time with Pritzker Alternative Strategies, which aims to replicate the success of PPC, but this time with funds.

The Chicagoan is also a pathfinder in educating the next generation about the importance of family capital and ensuring that future family offices have the necessary staff to flourish. As part of those efforts, he’s a backer of a big initiative at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business in the family office sector.

Philip Durst

Bush Street Investments, former President and CIO, Dallas, Texas

SMU Cox School of Business, MBA

Investment focus: Overall portfolio management across all asset classes

Durst has extensive investment skills, coupled with family office management expertise in running the investment part of one of America’s most prominent dynasties, the Ford family. He joined Bush Street, which is linked to Ford Estates, in 2017 after spending 10 years as a CIO at Tolleson Wealth Management. His expertise in the family investment sphere was further acknowledged this year when he was appointed as an advisor to the newly established, family-capital focused Pritzker Alternative Strategies group.

Family Capital compiled the list from a poll of its readers earlier this year, a review of their activities during the year, and an assessment of their overall impact in the North American family capital ecosystem. These investment professionals were nominated by Family Capital’s readers and adjudicated by the magazine’s editorial team. This recognition was issued on September 2, 2025, and generally lasts one to two years. Pritzker Alternative Strategies was not required to provide compensation directly or indirectly to be evaluated or to receive this recognition. Past performance is no guarantee of future results.
